Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will join Tina Brown’s Women in the World Texas to shine a spotlight on the sacrifices made by military families. A military mom herself, Dr. Jill Biden has made her focus on the strength and courage of military families a top priority. As part of the Joining Forces initiative with First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Biden travels to military bases in the U.S. and abroad to visit service members and their families. Dr. Biden has also written a children’s book, Don’t Forget, God Bless our Troops; it tells the story—through the eyes of Dr. Biden’s granddaughter—of the year her father was deployed to Iraq.
Women in the World Founder Tina Brown says, “We are thrilled and honored to have Dr. Biden highlight the challenges faced by military families at Women in the World Texas, a region where military ties run deep. Dr. Biden does so much to ensure that those who support our service members have the support they need."
Women in the World Texas, which will be held in San Antonio’s Charline McCombs Empire Theatre on October 22, will also include a panel “Challenges on the Home Front,” featuring military spouses and the obstacles they face every day as caregivers, breadwinners and mothers.
Other Women in the World Texas participants include: Gloria Steinem; Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; Eva Longoria; Dolores Huerta; Ambassador Karen Hughes; Diane von Furstenberg; San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor; Congressman Joaquin Castro and his mother, Latina activist Rosie Castro; and Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe from Uganda.
