Cate, Elizabeth Edwards’ eldest daughter, delivered the eulogy at her mother’s funeral Saturday, calling her mother "a lighthouse to all of us" and reading from a letter Elizabeth had written. "I've loved you in the best ways I've known how," Elizabeth had written. "All I ever really needed was you, your love, your presence, to make my life complete." Edwards’ estranged husband, former presidential candidate John Edwards, was in attendance but did not speak. Other high-profile guests included Sen. John Kerry, who ran on the Democratic ticket with John Edwards in 2004, and North Carolina’s governor, Beverley Perdue. Westboro Baptist Church, a fringe protest group that often targets funerals, staged a spectacle, but Edwards supporters blocked the group with a peaceful "human buffer."
