As the group overseeing Egypt's first competitive presidential election promised Saturday that the winner would finally be announced on Sunday, tens of thousands protested the delayed release of official results in Tahrir Square. Initiated by the Muslim Brotherhood, the anti-military demonstration expressed outrage that the delayed announcement had been used as a bargaining tool in the power struggle between Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi and Ahmed Shafiq, a former prime minister under ousted president Hosni Mubarak. The Muslim Brotherhood has released photocopied documents from each of the country’s electoral districts as well as a tally that shows its candidate ahead by about 900,000 votes.
