Egypt has placed the blame for the assassination of its chief prosecutor on Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. The current chief prosecutor has called for the detention of six people who may have been involved in the 2015 killing. Hisham Barakat, the former prosecutor, was killed by a car bomb on June 29 last year. It was the first assassination of a senior Egyptian official in 25 years.
