Former President Bush's Attorney General Michael Mukasey and CIA director Michael Hayden blasted Obama's release of the Department of Justice interrogation memos yesterday, saying that it was "unsound as a matter of policy." In a Wall Street Journal editorial, the two argue that the memos' release was hardly legal necessity, saying that it was "perfectly packaged for media consumption," and would damage the effectiveness of future intelligence operations by revealing interrogation techniques to terrorists. Obama said yesterday in a statement that one of the reasons the memos were deemed safe to released was that nearly all of their contents had already leaked the media long beforehand. That's not enough for Mukasey and Hayden, who write: "By allowing this disclosure, President Obama has tied not only his own hands but also the hands of any future administration faced with the prospect of attack."
