A former special agent of the DEA was arrested Thursday night at Los Angeles International Airport for allegedly posing as an active FBI agent and trying to defraud a man out of money. David Garcia Herrera allegedly teamed up with Jerome Arthur Whittington, who prosecutors say posed as a former federal prosecutor. The two men told the victim of a fradulent investment scheme they could help recover his money, but he first had to provide cash before they could seize the fraudsters’ assets. The victim paid both men $290,000. In a second scheme, the two men got $8,500 for promising to help a man obtain immigration benefits for his wife.
