A paternity lawsuit against Juan Carlos, the former Spanish monarch, will head to the highest court in his country. The Spanish government rushed special legislation to grant Juan Carlos immunity from the suit in the lower courts, but Spain’s Supreme Court said on Wednesday it will hear the case. Belgian national, Ingrid Sartiau, filed a paternity claim against the ex-king, saying her mother had a relationship with him before her birth in 1966. However, a second paternity suit filed by Alberto Solà Jiménez was dismissed by the court. Juan Carlos abdicated earlier this year as his family became engulfed in scandal.
