Facebook has been quietly talking to media companies about hosting their news content directly on the platform rather than asking users to click a link to get to the article, The New York Times reported Monday, citing several people briefed on the talks. The social network is planning to test the new format in the next few months, with initial partners expected to be The New York Times, BuzzFeed, and National Geographic. Facebook has also proposed advertising to run alongside content in order for publishers to make money. Representatives for The Times and BuzzFeed declined to comment. The Guardian and National Geographic did not immediately respond to questions about the Facebook proposal.
