Lyle Jeffs, a fugitive polygamist and one of 11 members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who was indicted in a conspiracy to defraud the federal food-assistance program, was captured this week in South Dakota. Jeffs is being held in the Minnehaha County, South Dakota, jail without bond. He was arrested with several other defendants in February 2016 as part of a field raid. The 57-year-old apparently used olive oil to slip off his GPS ankle monitor and escape from home confinement in late June of last year. His legal wife divorced him in 2015, but his family has said he still has eight “spiritual wives.”
