The Food and Drug Administration took over three Johnson & Johnson Tylenol plants after a number of drug recalls and an FDA criminal investigation into issues at the factories. The plants—one in Puerto Rico and two in Pennsylvania—will be supervised by the FDA under the agreement, known as “consent decree,” which requires the company to adhere to a strict timetable to bring the facilities up to code. If McNeil, the division of Johnson & Johnson that operates the plants, does not comply, they could face fines of up to $10 million a year. One of the facilities makes pediatric over-the-counter Tylenol, while the other two make adult medicines, including Tylenol.
