Feds: Maryland Man Got $9K From ISIS

Federal investigators said Monday that a 30-year-old Maryland man received nearly $9,000 via wire transfers from ISIS contacts in Egypt and Syria in recent months. Mohamed Elshinawy was accused of receiving payments between March and late June and was allegedly directed to use the cash for “operational purposes,” court documents said. Authorities said Elshinawy tried to mask the payments as an eBay business for selling printers, but a review of his PayPal and Western Union records show that he allegedly received $8,700 from ISIS contacts. No plot has been linked to Elshinawy, but officials said he was instructed to carry out an attack on U.S. soil. He reportedly told agents he never intended to carry out an attack. He is charged with obstruction, making false statements to investigators, and falsifying or concealing material facts in the investigation.
