The Department of Education announced Tuesday that Harvard Law School has been found to be in violation of federal rules regarding its policy toward investigating sexual assault. The federal investigation found that the school did not appropriately respond to sexual-assault claims in at least two cases. In one of the cases, Harvard Law took more than a year to make a final determination and the complainant was not permitted to participate in the extended appeal process, a violation of Title IX of the federal education discrimination laws. In response, Harvard will have to revise its sexual-assault policies and submit all reports of sexual-harassment complaints filed during 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 for review.
