Former Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for misconduct while in office, becoming the highest ranking official in the territory to face corruption charges. In sentencing on Wednesday, High Court Justice Andrew Chan offered a harsh rebuke to Tsang, who led the financial hub from 2005 to 2012. “Never in my judicial career have I seen a man falling from such a height,” Chan said, according to a Reuters report. Tsang, found guilty last week of misconduct in public office, was cleared on a second count of misconduct, while he faces a retrial on a third charge related to the corruption case in September. Prosecutors alleged that Tsang benefited from undeclared conflicts of interest, including a luxury apartment in mainland China rented from the shareholder of a broadcasting company whose license he’d approved. The judge said he shaved 10 years off a potential 30-year sentence after taking Tsang’s long public service into account.
