According to data released by Foursquare, the location intelligence company, ever since Trump began running for president in June 2015, foot traffic at Trump-owned businesses has been down overall. Using data collected from the company’s location-based app, Foursquare found that in so-called blue states, the downward trend has been more consistent and severe while foot traffic in purple states (ones with less clear liberal attitudes) “has more closely matched patterns from previous years.” According to the data, the visit share to Trump properties in September 2016 was down 19 percent from September 2014, signifying an overall decline in foot traffic to the Republican nominee’s businesses since he began his presidential run.
