While witness after witness described graphically those 10 devastating minutes of the Fort Hood shooting, the man accused of wreaking havoc on the military base sat impassively in the courtroom. Through three days of a hearing that will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed with a court martial, Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan has not shown any sign of emotion or remorse for the shooting that killed 13 people and wounded 32, which he stands charged with perpetrating. Hasan, who was shot three times, is paralyzed from the chest down and sat stone-faced before his accusers. He took occasional notes or doodled on a pad in front of him. He barely spoke to his three lawyers. The rest of the courtroom, however, was all emotion. One soldier described the scene at Fort Hood as she watched Hasan reload his weapon and spray her fellow soldiers with bullets. "I couldn't look away,” she said. “I laid absolutely still as I could because he was shooting everything that moved. I couldn't stop watching. It was a nightmare that reoccurs every day."
