Japan was hit with a small tsunami in the same Fukushima region devastated in 2011, hours after a powerful 6.9 earthquake struck in the waters off its coastline. There were no fatalities or serious injuries reported from the quake or from the tsunami, Reuters reports. A wave measuring 4.5 feet high was recorded at Sendai, nearly 50 miles north of Fukushima. Smaller waves hit other places along the coast, and fishing boats were overturned in Higashi-Matsushima. “We saw high waves but nothing that went over the tidal barriers,” a man in Iwaki told television reporters. The tsunami warning was lifted after several hours.
