It’s only fitting that a Fall Classic battle between the two teams with the longest-standing World Championship droughts would go for at least six games.
The Cleveland Indians currently lead the series 3-2, but the Chicago Cubs’ Game 5 win shows they’re not going down without a fight. Despite the Tribe’s early lead in Sunday night’s game, the Cubs came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and came out victorious.
Although they were the favorites to win the Commissioner's Trophy at the beginning of the series, the tides have changed now that Cleveland only needs one win to take the Series. The Cubs would need to hold off the Indians in Tuesday’s game and earn another consecutive victory Wednesday night to win it all.
And the Cubs certainly feel the pressure.
Manager Joe Maddon told his team before Sunday’s game that they should fully feel the anxiety. “Please be nervous,” Maddon said Sunday night. “Absolutely. You should be nervous. We have to win tonight, so go ahead and be nervous. It’s up to us to get you beyond that moment and get back to Cleveland.”
Maddon could give that same speech again Tuesday night.
Whatever happens in the 2016 World Series, history will be made. But the Cubs are hoping things go their way, maybe, just this once.
Whether the Cubs finally beat the Curse or remain lovable losers remains to be seen. You can catch all the action live streaming, continuing with Game 6 of the 2016 World Series on Tuesday, November 1st at 8:00 p.m. ET.
