Gawker Media filed a motion to get judge Pamela Campbell to throw out a jury verdict that demands the media company pay $140 million in damages to Hulk Hogan. Gawker's attorneys also requested a new trial or at least a reduction of the verdict payout to $1.875 million. On March 18, a jury in St. Petersburg, Florida ruled that Gawker violated Hogan's privacy by publishing an excerpt of a sex tape. The jury awarded Hogan $60 million in emotional distress, $55 million in economic damages, and $25 million in punitive damages.
