A young soldier at Prince Harry’s army base was the victim of a drunken gay sex attack, it was claimed this weekend.
Rupert Murdoch’s new Sunday Sun ran the story as its front page splash in yesterday’s newspaper.
Military police officers are now investigating claims that three male soldiers pounced on a fellow squaddie as he lay sleeping in his room at Wattisham air station in Suffolk.
The gang allegedly pinned the young man down and sexually assaulted him after the trio had returned from a heavy drinking session.
Prince Harry, an Apache helicopter pilot based at Wattisham, is not thought to have been on the base when the incident took place
A source told the Sun: “These lads went out on the piss then when they got back they went into one of the rooms.
“They found this lad asleep in his bed and pinned him down. There were claims that it was a sexual assault. I think the accused are denying what happened. But it’s not what you want going on at a base, especially when there is a Royal stationed there.”
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: “As there is an on-going investigation into this allegation it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time. Action will be taken against all those who fall short of the Army’s high standards.”
