Thailand is now officially controlled by the military as the army general who was in charge of the coup against the country's elected government was named prime minister on Thursday. General Prayuth Chan-ocha was named to the position by a National Legislative Assembly made up of members selected by the junta, and there was not a single dissent. All elections, including for local councils, have been suspended. Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej is expected to formally approve the selection.
