Sunday was a busy night for President Obama, who addressed the nation on the threat of terrorism and still made time to recognize six honorees for a lifetime of achievement in performing arts at the Kennedy Center. Filmmaker George Lucas, singer-songwriter Carole King, actress and singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa, and actress Cicely Tyson were among those awarded. Obama, who was not expected to appear due to his televised address, arrived just after intermission. Members of the rock band the Eagles had also been selected to receive honors, but deferred acceptance until 2016. One of the members, Glenn Frey, had to have surgery in November. This year marked the first time the Kennedy Center honored six recipients instead of five.
