Georgia Weighs Clemency for Troy Davis

Convicted and sentenced in 1991 for the murder of a police officer in Savannah, Troy Davis is set to be executed Wednesday—even though many of the witnesses in his original trial have changed their testimony. Davis will make a last-ditch appeal for clemency Monday to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, the only authority in the state with the power to commute his sentence. The board has once already denied Davis’ petition for clemency but has added three new members since it last weighed the issue.
