A memorial service for the victims of last month’s Germanwings plane crash in the French Alps will be held at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany on Friday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, transport ministers from France and Spain, and Lufthansa chief Carsten Spohr are expected to be among the 1,500 attending to remember the dead. A candle for the 150 people killed has been placed on the altar and flags will fly at half-staff across the country. German President Joachim Gauck and Spain’s Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz are also expected to attend. Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz is accused of intentionally crashing the jetliner on March 24, killing everyone on board.
