German media reported Friday that the country’s security agents recorded a phone call involving Hillary Clinton while she was still Secretary of State. Clinton was on a U.S. government plane, according to German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which quoted several German government sources. The call was picked up “by accident” and the fact that the recording was not immediately destroyed is “idiocy,” according to one of the sources. Berlin has criticized the U.S.’s widespread surveillance program, particularly after NSA leaker Edward Snowden revealed that Washington has spied on German officials and bugged Chancellor Angela Merkel’s phone.
