Child Holocaust survivors will receive additional funds from the German government to cover costs associated with malnutrition and psychological trauma caused by the Nazis. The new agreement is estimated to be worth $250 million. Jewish children who were in concentration camps, ghettos, or who spent at least six months in hiding will receive a one-time payment of €2,500 (about $3,280), according to the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. The payments represent the first time the German government has acknowledged the problems unique to child survivors. "All of this is being driven by the fact that we're in the final years," Claims Conference executive vice president Greg Schneider told CBS News. "If there's going to be any final message that the German government or the German people are going to give to survivors, these are literally the last years to do it."
