Getty Images is throwing in the towel. Unable to police the use of millions of its images online, the world’s largest photography service is making 35 million of its professional photos available for free. The images will be made available through an embed tool that's similar to YouTube—which may allow it to service advertisements at a later point. Famous images, including those of JFK, or sporting events, or Marilyn Monroe, will now be available for non-commercial use. "Our content was everywhere already," admitted Craig Peters, the company’s development executive.
