The release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is set for Tuesday, says an official in the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On the same day, 450 Palestinian prisoners will be freed. Haaretz reports that Shalit will be taken to Sinai and then to Israel through one of Egypt's border crossings. When Shalit reaches Sinai, Israel will release 27 female Palestinian prisoners, and then 450 other Palestinian prisoners when Shalit reaches Israel. A second group of 550 prisoners will be freed within two months. Shalit was captured by Hamas in June 2006, and repeated attempts to negotiate his release have broken down.
