Once clogging radio and television airwaves with Spanish-language ads and mini-documentaries about the evils of Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich has recently become pretty quiet. The reason can be surmised simply by following the money: major Newt backer Sheldon Adelson has written his last big check to Gingrich’s super PAC for a while. The Adelson family has given $11 million in the past two months to Winning Our Future. While in Florida alone the super PAC spent $6 million on TV, radio, and Internet ads, this past week Winning Our Future has spent only $61,290 on advertising. Without continued contributions from the Adelson fund, Gingrich’s campaign plans to fundraise on its own.
