As Scott Brown savored his upset victory over Martha Coakley in the Massachusetts special election, Republicans across the country basked in his reflected glory. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-TN) said voters have made it clear they don’t want the Democrats’ health-care bill to pass. RNC Chairman Michael Steele said, “Democrats everywhere are on notice.” On Fox News, Sarah Palin said Brown’s victory was "a referendum on all those things that President Obama has been standing for… It was many different factors all coming together—and thank God for that, I think a lot of the people will say, because this is a step for taking our country back." Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said, “Americans are ready to hold the party in power accountable.” Democratic leaders turned to worrying about health-care reform.
