Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid already reached out the president and his party to counteract his comments calling Barack Obama a “light-skinned” African-American who lacked a “Negro dialect”—but that’s not enough for some. RNC Chair Michael Steele said today Reid should step down from his leadership role, because in 2002, Republican Majority Leader Trent Lott did the same when he made remarks implying support for Strom Thurmond’s segregationist campaign in the ‘40s. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) also mentioned he should step down, as did Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). According to a Nevada Mason-Dixon poll, Reid has the highest unfavorables of the election cycle, with 52 percent of Nevadans expressing a negative opinion of him.
