It looks like the vote to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” may not take place Tuesday, after all: Maine Senator Susan Collins, the sole Republican who voted to repeal the policy when it came up before the Armed Services Committee, has said she will join her party in filibustering the repeal. "I find myself on the horns of a dilemma," said Collins. "I was the sole Republican in the committee that voted [to repeal DADT]. I think it's the right thing to do. I think it's only fair." However, she objects to the Democrats’ decision to not allow unlimited amendments. "That too is not fair," said Collins of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's decision. "I cannot vote to proceed to this bill under a situation that is going to shut down debate.” Collins’ colleague from Maine, Sen. Olympia Snowe, also objects to Democrats’ refusal to allow unlimited debate. Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) agreed that all senators should be able to amend the bill, but pointed out that the Republican filibuster was preventing them from proceeding to the point where amendments can be considered.
