On September 8, Obama will televise an address to the country's students in the first speech of its kind, telling school-aged children "to work hard, set goals for their education and take responsibility for their learning," Education Secretary Arne Duncan explained in a press release to the country's principals. No controversy here, right? Uh: Jim Greer, Chairman of the Florida Republican Party says the back-to-school speech is an attempt to "indoctrinate America's children to his socialist agenda" and Texas school districts are contemplating if they should show the speech, according to the Houston Chronicle. Duncan said that viewing the President's speech is not mandatory, but encouraged. In repsonse to criticism, the Obama administration deleted one line from the suggested lesson plan they sent to schools to accompany the speech. The deleted line asked children to write down how they could help their president, the Dallas Morning News reports.
