Republican Oklahaoma Gov. Mary Fallin on Tuesday refused to dismantle a controversial Ten Commandments monument from the statehouse, despite a state Supreme Court ruling ordering its removal. The state’s highest court ruled in a 7-2 decision last week that the six-foot-high stone replica was unconstitutional. The governor said in a statement “the court got it wrong,” adding the monument will stay put while the state appeals the court’s decision and the legislature considers amendments to the state constitution. Fallin argues the statue was paid for with private donations and is no different from the state’s annual Christmas tree lighting.
