Greta Friedman, the woman seen being kissed by a sailor in Times Square in a famous photograph symbolizing the end of World War II, has died at the age of 92. Friedman's son, Joshua, confirmed the news on Saturday, saying his mother had suffered health problems in the last two years and had been living in an assisted living facility. She will be buried alongside her husband at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Friedman, then a dental assistant, was captured on film in 1945 when Americans first found out that Japan had surrendered and the war was over. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt managed to snap four pictures that would go down in history as Friedman was kissed by a perfect stranger -- a sailor who was so overjoyed by the end of the war that he grabbed Friedman and kissed her.
