It's money over mind at George Washington University. Contrary to the need-blind method admissions officers have claimed for years, GW admits it has been waitlisting hundreds of prospective undergraduates if they're unable to pay the school's full tuition. The new associate provost for enrollment revealed that applicants who meet the school's admission standards, but aren't the cream of the crop, can be moved from "admitted" to "waitlisted" if they are asking for financial support. This is affecting 10 percent of GW's 22,000 annual applicants, and allowing wealthier waitlisted students to jump into the accepted category in their place.
