Chuck Hagel is already testing his Defense secretary chops, arriving in Afghanistan Friday on his first trip to the war zone since he took office last month. Speaking to reporters before his arrival, Hagel emphasized the need for a “responsible transition” as 66,000 U.S. troops begin coming home from the Afghan war. “We’re still at war in Afghanistan,” he told reporters. Hagel is scheduled to meet with Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, the top commander in Afghanistan, as well as with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other officials.
