If the Haqqani network didn’t do it, and Pakistan didn’t do it, then who did? Both groups have denied killing Afghan peace envoy Burhanuddin Rabbani. Afghan officials believe that the Haqqani network (an Afghan militant group), working with the ISI, conducted a suicide attack on Rabbani. Kabul has broken off trilateral peace talks. A top leader in the network told the BBC that the group didn’t kill the former president, and they are not linked to Pakistan’s spy agency. Pakistan, too, has said that allegations that the ISI was involved in the turban-bomb attack are “baseless.” It’s important to note that the Haqqani network isn’t shy: it fully admits to orchestrating the attacks on the U.S. embassy and NATO headquarters in Kabul.
