Harper Lee is fully aware of the reviews for Go Set a Watchman, her recently released sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, and they have made her “chortle.” Wayne Flint, an Auburn University professor, says he showed Lee several articles about her book during a visit to her assisted-living home in Monroeville, Alabama. “She chortled,” he said, adding that “the argument did she want this to be published has been answered pretty overwhelmingly.” Flint also guesses that Lee waited more than 50 years to publish the book because “she’s insecure. I don’t think she believed in herself.”
