Harvard Law School has announced that it will begin accepting the Graduate Record Examination in a new admissions experiment, rather than requiring the Law School Admission Test for all applicants. The potential swap has been debated for years in the legal-education community, and Harvard’s decision will likely affect other schools. “The pilot program to accept the GRE is part of a wider strategy at Harvard Law School to expand access to legal education for students in the United States and internationally,” a spokesperson for Harvard said in the announcement. “The GRE is offered frequently throughout the year and in numerous locations around the world.” Jeff Thomas, executive director of pre-law programs at Kaplan, a company that prepares students for such tests, said, “Any time Harvard Law School comes out with a change, the law school admissions world will take notice.”
