A hedge-fund manager who was charged with insider trading last week was found dead in his Brooklyn home Monday in an apparent suicide. Sanjay Valvani was found by his wife in their bedroom. Valvani, 44, had a slash wound on his neck, police said, and a suicide note was found nearby. “Valvani was a loving father, husband, son and brother and committed friend, colleague and mentor,” lawyers for the investment banker said in a statement. “We hope for the sake of his family and his memory that it will not be forgotten that the charges against him were only unproven accusations and he had always maintained his innocence.” Valvani, a partner at Visium Asset Management, pleaded not guilty last week in federal court on charges that he used inside information to trade on generic drug approvals.
