Those “$16 muffins” were a bargain, according to Hilton Worldwide. After the Justice Department's inspector general criticized the department for what appeared to be lavish spending during a conference at the Hilton, the hotel fired back, saying that price included fresh fruit, coffee, tea, soft drinks, tax, and tips. Hilton said they simply abbreviated the bill for the entire breakfast as “muffins.” A spokesman for the inspector general said that “we stand by our report.” The report said the muffins were one one of several food items that "appeared extravagant and potentially wasteful."
