On Thursday, Joseph Kenneth Cornett was charged with the kidnapping and rape of two 15-year-old girls in Lancaster, California. He will face trial for as many as 18 felony counts and eight misdemeanors, including attempted unprotected sexual activity while being aware he was HIV-positive. Cornett posed as a police officer and pretended to arrest one of the girls for jaywalking while she was walking home from school. He then allegedly took her to an abandoned mobile classroom and sexually assaulted her. He faces life in prison.
