On Monday, Hong Kong authorities closed the last three sites where pro-democracy protests were staged. Demonstrators grabbed the last items that remained from more than two months of protests against the Chinese government. Dozens were arrested, including some who were elderly, when they refused to disperse. Police cleared barricades, tents, and other items from the remaining protest sites, which included Causeway Bay, a shopping center popular with mainland Chinese tourists, and the Legislative Council. “I don’t think it’s a failure. This is not the end,” said protester K.T. Tang, a legal executive. “I hope the next time when we gather in the streets, we will be celebrating, instead of shedding tears for achieving nothing.”
