Shoot your gun in celebration: The House of Representatives passed a campaign-finance law on Thursday that will force interest groups to disclose their top donors and stand by the ads they sponsor—going as far as requiring CEOs to appear in the advertisements. It also bans businesses and groups that hold more than $10 million in government contracts from political activity. Not all groups, however, are obligated to comply: The NRA and labor unions flexed their lobbying muscles and carved out exemptions for themselves. Only two Republicans voted for the measure, which passed on a 219-206 vote. It now heads to the Senate.
