On a slim party-line vote of 219 to 205, House Republicans managed to pass the new budget plan from former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan on Thursday. The plan, which Ryan promises will balance the budget in 10 years, would cut social programs, grants for college students, as well as spending on research and infrastructure. It contains no increases in tax revenue. In all, 193 Democrats and 12 Republicans voted against the budget, which is widely seen as more of a campaign document.
