House, Senate Try to Reconcile Bill

As the financial overhaul bill nears its final stretch, lawmakers in the House and Senate are attempting to reconcile their versions to ready it for final passage next week. Pro-consumer groups are pushing for the more stringent Senate version. One of the biggest issues on the table is the Volcker Rule, which would keep banks from having their own hedge funds and trading their own accounts. Next up would be derivatives, another flashpoint for lawmakers. When Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) was asked if Congress had come to an agreement on controversial issues around the bill, he pointed to the crowd around Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and said: "Does it look like people celebrating a deal?" But then he added, “There have been conversations all day. I think we'll get a deal."
