Comedian T.J. Miller, known best for his performance in HBO’s Silicon Valley, will return to host the Critics’ Choice Awards for the second year in a row on Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. ET.
Back for its 22nd year, the awards ceremony gala will be broadcast from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Prior to the awards ceremony, A&E will be streaming the 22nd annual “Critics’ Choice Red Carpet Live,” so be sure to catch all your favorite actors and actresses strutting their stuff before the main show.
A union of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards will feature nominees ranging from The People v. OJ Simpson (FX) and Game of Thrones (HBO) to Jackie and Doctor Strange.
As one of the first big awards shows of the season—having moved from January to December—the Critics’ Choice Awards will set the stage for the rest of the year’s ceremonies, serving as a strong barometer of which films and television shows are likely to win Golden Globe awards in January, Oscars in February, or other awards throughout the season.
With that in mind, it looks like it’s going to be a very good year for HBO, which leads the television honors with 22 noms, as well as Netflix and ABC, tying for second with 14 nominations each. Top nominated series include returning programs like House of Cards and Veep, each with four nominations, as well as new premiers like Westworld and The Crown, each with three mentions.
Not to mention the spectacular response to this year’s films: La La Land has 12 nominations, including two for Best Song; Moonlight and Arrival both earned 10 nominations; and Manchester by the Sea is in the running for eight awards.
In addition to awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Comedy, and other long-established awards, the Critics’ Choice Awards will also bestow a Critics’ Choice MVP Award and a Most Bingeworthy Fan-Voted Award on Sunday night. Past winners of the MVP award include Amy Schumer and Jessica Chastain and nominees for this year’s Most Bingeworthy show include Game of Thrones, Outlander, Bates Motel, Mr. Robot, Catastrophe, and Stranger Things.
Additionally, thanks to the Critics’ Choice Awards’ new partnership with Entertainment Weekly, EW’s annual Entertainer of the Year title will also be awarded, this time to Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.
Even more big name actors and actresses will be at the show to present the myriad of awards.
This year’s list includes Arrival star Amy Adams, along with Kevin Hart, Leslie Mann, James Marsden, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lily Collins, Ty Burrell, Milo Ventimiglia, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Norman Reedus, Justin Timberlake, and many, many more.
All this year’s biggest TV and movie stars will be in attendance, so tune in for for the 22nd Critics’ Choice Awards Sunday night, beginning with the Critics’ Choice Awards Nomination Special and red carpet show at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the main event at 8 p.m. ET. You won’t want to miss a minute.
