Humpback whales are making a comeback. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced on Monday that 10 populations of the creatures can be taken off the endangered species list. Commercial whaling resulted in a sharp decline of humpbacks in the 1970s, but their numbers have been rising in recent years. The NOAA is proposing a reclassification of humpbacks into 14 different segments, four of which will still be listed as endangered or threatened.
