Just as Hurricane Danielle weakens and moves offshore, a new storm is brewing. Earl, recently updated to hurricane status but predicted to strengthen to Category 3, is making a move toward the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday evening. Rain associated with Earl has already hit those islands, a precursor of the heavy rains and storm surges expected to come. A hurricane warning has been issued across much of the Caribbean, including Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, and St. Martin. Forecasters predict Earl to strengthen into a “major hurricane” by Tuesday, and it could possibly veer away toward the east coast of the U.S. by Friday.
