Hurricane Irma weakened to a Category 2 storm Sunday evening after first hitting Florida as a Category 4 on Sunday morning, CNN reported. The National Hurricane Center said Irma is now climbing north along the state’s coast with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. Several places that have not been directly hit are facing flooding and downed power lines. At least 2.8 million people in Florida have lost power since tropical force winds and heavy rain first hit the state early Sunday morning. Also, two Florida police officers died Sunday morning in a head-on collision while responding to the storm, though it is unclear whether hurricane conditions caused the crash.
